Netherlands-based Philips, one of the world's largest healthcare, electronics and lighting makers, is considering building a lighting plant in Russia's Tatarstan Republic, the head of the republic said on Friday.

Netherlands-based Philips, one of the world's largest healthcare, electronics and lighting makers, is considering building a lighting plant in Russia's Tatarstan Republic, the head of the republic said on Friday.

The future plant may be built in the Elabuga special economic zone, the Republic's Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov said.

Philips is interested in widening cooperation with Tatarstan in various spheres and will participate in the republic's energy efficiency programs in 2012-2013.

Tatarstan could also become a pilot zone for direct supplies of healthcare machinery, Philips' CEO for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Transcaucasia and Central Asia Arjan de Jongste was quoted in a statement as saying.
