Russia's State Transport Leasing Company has signed a deal for 15 Cessna 208B Grand Caravan utility aircraft, with options for a further 15 for use by regional air transport companies, the Russian company said on March 14.

Eight aircraft will be delivered this year and seven in 2013. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

STLC “plans to lease the aircraft under government subsidies to compensate part of the expense of leasing payments for aircraft that apply to leasing contracts signed after January 1, 2012,” the company said.

The aircraft will be leased to local air transport operators as part of a government plan announced on January 1 to revive Russia's moribund local aviation services.

The government will allocate up to 1.9 billion rubles (around $63 million) for subsidized aircraft leasing in 2012.

The single turboprop-engine Grand Caravan, which carries up to nine passengers or a ton of freight, is designed for use in rough conditions including operating from grass airfields.
