Imports to Russia from countries other than former Soviet republics increased 35.4 percent in January-September 2010 to $135.509 billion, the Federal Customs Service said on Wednesday.
"According to preliminary customs data on January-September 2010, imports from non-CIS countries in value terms reached $135.508 billion compared to the same period in 2009 and increased by 35.4 percent," the service said in a statement.
In September 2010, the imports of goods from non-CIS countries fell by 2.9 percent, month on month, to $18.8 billion, it said.
Imports fell in September as pharmaceuticals importers cut their purchase volumes after significantly replenishing their stocks due to the enforcement of a new federal law on the circulation of medicinal drugs on September 1, the service said.
The imports of machinery grew 10.2 percent to $9.618 billion and food and raw materials for food production 5.8 percent to 2.316 billion, the service said.
Grain imports increased 150 percent, vegetables 22.9 percent, meat and meat products 22.7 percent, milk and dairy products 20.9 percent, fish 18.0 percent and sugar 10.9 percent. The purchases of fruits, alcohol and soft drinks in value terms were almost unchanged in September from August, while imports of vegetable oil and tobacco decreased by 10.3 percent, the service said.
