"We have now concentrated on pilot projects in the CIS to meet our priorities in establishing a Single economic environment. As to countries outside the former Soviet republics, projects to be introduced there are worth immense figures--$100 million and more. More structural deals are yet to be thought out," said Dmitriev.
He underlined that Russian industrial export calls for the improvement of relevant legislation so as to be granted full-fledged support through Vnesheconombank and Roseksimbank.
Touching upon specific projects in this field, Dmitriev cited cooperation with Italy. "President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Italy in November 2003 resulted in signing a series of agreements with Italian banks, the SACE insurance agency and the SIMEST Italian enterprise assistance institute on support for joint export projects in third countries. Though little time has passed, we have already set about scrutinizing projects of mutual interest," reported Dmitriev.
The VEB director noted happy prospects in relevant cooperation with both the G-7 members and other countries willing to finance projects in third countries with Russian partners.
"Of specific projects, I would mention our good chances with Turkey in implementing a number of construction and industrial projects in Ukraine and Kazakhstan. I mean cooperation between Russian companies and Turkish export suppliers," he said.
"When President Putin was hosted in Mexico, we discussed the VEB's involvement in major infrastructure projects in gas extraction and transportation as Russia is known for its high technological standards in this field. On the other hand, Mexican companies, being the region's leading oil exporters, are technologically prepared to handle joint projects with Russia in other Latin American countries," said Dmitriev.
"We are considering several projects with our German partners, to be implemented in the CIS environment," he added.
"Besides, we can cooperate with Japanese companies in China and South-East Asia to modernize plants built in Soviet times.
