PRESIDENTIAL AIDE CRITICIZES ENERGY REFORM IN RUSSIA

ST.PETERSBURG, April 13 (RIA Novosti) - The so-called "power engineering reform" has nothing to do with liberalism and only buttresses up the monopolistic positions of oligarchs, presidential economic adviser Andrei Illarionov said to journalists in St.Petersburg on Tuesday.

"What is called the 'reform' of power engineering boils down to a company getting exclusive monopoly rights, built up by legislation. The 'reform', strengthening the monopoly positions of some oligarchs, has nothing to do with liberalism," Illarionov said.

Talks of establishing and selling wholesale generating companies "only stir noise to divert attention from the gist of the process." "How these few monopolists are going to divide national wealth - in a parallel or perpendicular way - is very far from the everyday life of citizens," Illarionov emphasized.
