ASHKHABAD, April 9 (RIA Novosti) - According to a report by the National Institute of Statistics and Information, in the first quarter of 2004, Turkmenistan's GDP was 18 trillion manats ($3.5 billion), a 20.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
The highest growth rates were registered in industry (121.4%), agriculture (118.8%), and construction (117.8%).
The growth rate of production in the service sector was 119.6%.
Trade (126%), the social sphere (118.1%), and transport and communication (117.7%) all had accelerated growth rates.
Industry accounts for the largest share in terms of gross output (41.8%), followed by agriculture (10.7%) and construction (9.7%).
