MIKHAIL FRADKOV TO INFORM SENATORS ON GOVERNMENT PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT MEASURES

MOSCOW, April 8 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov is expected to make a speech at a Federation Council plenary session scheduled for April 14 and inform Russian senators on measures taken to improve performance of the Cabinet as well as on social and economic development issues.

The press service of the Federation Council said the issue had been on the agenda for the session.

On Wednesday, April 14 senators plan to consider a number of federal laws accepted by the State Duma earlier.

In particular, the Federation Council will consider amendments to the RF Criminal Code, which envisage an increased term for bringing charges against a person during investigation of terrorist crimes; amendments to the law on weapon, which entitle educational institutions training legal officers with special tasks to purchase weapons.

Amendments to the law on military duty and military service are on the agenda as well. A new document will grant a draft deferment to citizens having pregnant wives. Russian senators will make amendments to a number of effective federal laws, which change the conditions of the military service and the status of contract servicemen.

Ratification of a number of international treaties is on the agenda as well. UN Convention against the transnational organized crime, agreements between the Government of the Russian Federation and Lithuania on investment promotion and mutual protection, conventions on social consequences of new methods for cargo processing in ports are among them.
