RUSSIAN, CANADIAN AUDIT BODIES AIM AT LONG-TERM COOPERATION

MOSCOW, April 2, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- A delegation of the Russian Audit Chamber headed by its deputy chairman Alexander Semikolennykh paid an official visit to Canada from March 29 to April 2 at an invitation from the Canadian Auditor General.

The delegates discussed the program for further cooperation till 2007 with Auditor General Sheila Fraser. Ms. Fraser pointed out the successful implementation of the Russo-Canadian joint project on the transfer to the audit of effective budgetary spending by the example of the federal target programs "Children of the North" and "Social Backing of Invalids for 2000-2005".

Reports on the auditing of these programs will be delivered at the parliamentary hearing in May 2004, involving the Canadian Auditor General's staffers.

Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons Peter Milliken and chairman of the public accounts committee John Williams met with Russian delegates.
