RAO UES HAS ENDORSED CANDIDATES TO ITS NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MOSCOW, March 9, 2004 / RIA Novosti /. The board of directors of the Russian joint-stock company United Energy Systems of Russia (RAO UES of Russia) endorsed candidates to its new board of directors. Andrei Yegorov, RAO UES's department for work with the media, informed RIA Novosti this Tuesday.

"The voting was held by polling," he specified.

As it was already reported, RAO UES shareholders nominated 41 candidates for election to the company's board of directors with a total of 15 seats.

The voting on candidates for election to the energy holding's board of directors will take place at the annual shareholders meeting to be held in late May-early June 2004.

"After the election of the company's new board of directors, the date of its meeting, which will elect chairman of the board of directors, will be fixed," a RAO UES spokesman said to RIA Novosti.

At present, the RAO UES board of directors is made up of 15 members, including German Gref, acting economic development and trade minister, Igor Yusufov, acting energy minister, Victor Khristenko, acting prime minister, and Ilya Yuzhanov, acting anti-trust minister. The board of directors is headed (on a voluntary basis) by Alexander Voloshin, adviser to the chief of the president's administration.

Ten members of the board represent the state on the company's board of directors.

Apart from the former members of the board of directors, the company's shareholders put forward the following candidates: Andrei Rapoport, deputy chairman of the RAO UES board, Yakov Urinson, deputy chairman of the RAO UES board, Andrei Sharonov, first deputy economic development and trade minister, Oleg Deripaska, chairman of the Bazovy element (Basic Element) company's supervisory board, and Alexander Abramov, president of the Eurazholding.
