IRAN'S NUCLEAR PROGRAMS BECOMING APPLE OF DISCORD AMONG WESTERN COUNTRIES

VIENNA, March 8 (RIA Novosti) - Contradictions over the wording of a resolution on the report delivered by IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei, in the parts of it that concern Iran's nuclear programs, emerged at a meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which holds a session at its headquarters in Vienna, an IAEA source told RIA Novosti.

According to the source, the Board of Governors consisting of 35 members is "busy looking for a compromise decision on a draft resolution on Iran, so that the positions of the U.S., New Zealand and Australia, on the one hand, would be in accord with those of Germany, France, Britain and a number of other countries, on the other."

"The U.S. and other countries sharing its view, demand adoption of a tough, in fact anti-Iranian, resolution and submitting the issue to the UN Security Council for imposing sanctions against Tehran, which, as it is maintained by the U.S., secretly works on projects of developing its own A-bomb. Meanwhile, Germany, Britain and France insist on a "mild" resolution and on refraining from bringing the 'Iran dossier' to the UN," the source stressed.

In his view, a decision on the resolution about Iran's nuclear programs can hardly be expected on Monday. More likely, the Board of Governors members will put off this decision until the end of the week. For the time being, they will concentrate on other items on the meeting's agenda, including problems associated with Libya.
