MOSCOW, MARCH 1, 2004, RIA NOVOSTI - Auditors of Russia and Germany got together Monday on the premises of the Russian Auditing Chamber for a seminar on ways of dealing with attempts to evade paying the Value Added Tax (VAT). Norbert Hauser, Vice President of Germany's Federal Court of Audit, was among the participants.

The seminar, to run through March 4, will feature keynote speeches on problems of VAT collection in Russia and on regulations aimed at preventing corruption at federal departments and agencies of Germany.

The Russian Auditing Chamber is now actively discussing VAT evasion, and would appreciate it if German counterparts share with it some of their experience in dealing with related offenses, chamber officials pointed out.

Russian auditors would also like to draw upon Korean expertise in preventing misuse of public funds. Alexander Semikolennykh, Vice Chairman of the Russian Auditing Chamber, reportedly raised the issue as he met Monday with a visiting vice chairman of the South Korean Board of Audit and Inspection.
