ELECTRICITY TARIFFS TO GROW BY 13.5% IN RUSSIA THIS YEAR

MOSCOW, March 1 (RIA Novosti) - The electricity tariffs for consumers will grow by 13.5% at the utmost this year, Georgy Kutovoi, head of the Federal Energy Commission (FEC), said at its Monday session.

In his words, electricity tariffs went up by 15% last year but their average size was "permissible" with regard to inflation. The highest electricity tariffs in Russia are in its Far Eastern region, where electricity may cost 1.4 rubles per kilowatt/hour (1 dollar equals 28.4 rubles).

Kutovoi also said that his commission predicted a growth of wholesale prices of gas by 20%, while the cost of passenger and freight railway transportation may increase by 12% at the utmost.
