MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 25 (RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT TATYANA BELYAKOVA) - The Russian State Committee for Construction is against the cancellation of state control and supervision in the building sector, committee head Nikolai Koshman said at an expanded session of the collegium.

"The lack of a permanent quality control of construction is a threat to human life," he said.

The lowering of construction quality in Russia lately "is the reason for man-caused catastrophes resulting from the collapse of buildings," Mr. Koshman noted.

"State supervision of construction should be an integral part of construction activities," he stressed.

"Despite the proposals on passing supervision to self-regulated organizations, the state-run control, supervision, licensing and examination of construction must be preserved," Mr. Koshman stressed.
