LABOR MINISTER: GAP BETWEEN RICH AND POOR NOT REDUCED

MOSCOW, February 25, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - In spite of the growth of incomes of the population, the gap between the rich and the poor in Russia is not reduced, Russian acting Minister of Labor and Social Development Alexander Pochinok said on Wednesday.

According to the latest data of the State Statistics Committee, real incomes of the population grew by 14.5 percent in 2003. This is the highest rate over the last ten years.

However, the incomes of the rich exceed the incomes of the poor by over 14 times, Pochinok said.
