RUSSIA AND BELARUS CONTINUE TALKS ON INTRODUCTION OF SINGLE CURRENCY

MOSCOW, February 13 (RIA Novosti) - Today the head of Russia's Central Bank, Sergei Ignatyev and head of the central Bank of Belarus Pyotr Prokopovich will discuss the questions of introduction of a single currency of the Russian-Belarussian Union State. The meeting will take place in Vladimir, a regional center 200 km from Moscow.

According to information from the Embassy of Belarus to the Russian Federation, the sides will consider how the plan of joint actions of the two countries' governments and central banks in this direction is being implemented. The plan, adopted in 2001, provides for introducing a single currency, the Russian ruble, from 2005.

The participants in the meeting will discuss also the economic situation in their countries and the currency and monetary-credit policy of the central banks of Belarus and Russia. In particular, they will analyze the course of the work to unify the procedure for extending credits by the two countries' banks.
