BUENOS AIRES, February 13 (RIA Novosti correspondent Yuri Nikolayev) - Buenos Aires is asking Moscow to make the Russian market more open to supplies of Argentine meat and soy-bean.

Buenos Aires-based newspaper Clarin quotes government sources as saying that "if this request is satisfied Argentina will vote for Russia's entry into the World Trade Organization." According to the newspaper's information, in the course of last week's talks with the representatives of Russia's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade in Geneva, Deputy Minister of the Food Industry of Argentina Claudio Sabsai asked his Russian counterparts "not to raise discriminative barriers in allotting quotas for supplies of meat and soy-bean from Argentina." He recalled that from 1974 to 1984 Argentina was the major supplier of meat to the USSR. At that time 25 per cent of the Argentine export of meat products went to Russia.

Buenos Aires would now like to receive a quota for supplying 35,000 tons of beef to Russia annually.
