MOSCOW, February 5 (RIA Novosti) - Leader of the Homeland faction in the State Duma, Sergei Glazyev, believes that the Russian ruble should become "a world financial and reserve currency." When appearing at a press conference, the deputy of the lower house presented his viewpoint on Russia's further economic development. In 1992, Glazyev was heading the Russian ministry of foreign economic ties.
"Russia should and can challenge the new architecture of the global financial structure, in particular, turn the ruble into an international financial and reserve currency," he believes. "The US dollar has engulfed the entire global economy and suppressed the European economy," said Glazyev. In his opinion, "Russia should put an end to its excessive dependence on the global financial currency - the dollar." When asked by journalists, Glazyev opined that Russia's foreign policy course was correct. "This course should expand our influence on the international market," he said.
