RUSSIA, BELARUS HAVE CLOSE POSITIONS ON TRANSIT PIPELINES

MOSCOW, February 4, 2004. /RIA Novosti/. The Russian-Belarussian intergovernmental talks on fuel and energy cooperation will continue on Thursday, February 5, Belarussian First Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko told journalists on Wednesday, following the meeting with his Russian counterpart Viktor Khristenko.

"The talks are in good progress," Semashko said.

The Wednesday talks focused on the property of the Russian company Transnefteprodukt in Belarus, a source in the Russian delegation told RIA Novosti.

Earlier the Belarussian side claimed the ownership of pipelines in its territory. According to the source, the positions of the sides have become much closer and relevant documents will be signed soon.
