RUSSIA, EU TOGETHER TO MONITOR OIL-AND-GAS PRICES

MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 3 (RIA Novosti) - The European Union has started its own monitoring of prices and other indices of the petroleum and gas market. Russia is willing to join in, said Viktor Khristenko, Deputy Prime Minister, as he was summing up for the media his Moscow conference with Francois Lamoureux, Director General of the European Commission for transport and energy.

The EU energy directorate has established a service for independent oil-and-gas market indices monitoring by pioneer methods to add to those currently in use.

"We [Russians] are ready to join in. In particular, we can together evaluate prospects for reservation systems, apart from other matters," remarked Mr. Khristenko.

As he sees it, the newborn service will guarantee stability and certainty on the oil-and-gas market, from which manufacturers and consumers will benefit alike.
