YEKATERINBURG, February 3, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The Russian President's plenipotentiary representative in the Urals federal region (UrFO), Peter Latyshev, called for Japanese investors to intensify mutually advantageous cooperation. Mr. Latyshev stated at the UrFO Presentation conference in Tokyo that in the Ural region "there is a huge potential."

Mr. Latyshev emphasized during his delegation's visit to Japan that the region already had Japanese partners including: the Chelyabinsk tractor plant, which assembles Komatsu tractors for the work on the extreme north and the Kurgan bus plant which assembles Toyota cars.

"We have sufficient possibilities so that Japanese capital would feel comfortable in the Urals. The development of the sector of services of the UrFO approaches a level of international standards," emphasized Mr. Latyshev.

Approximately 200 representatives of Japanese businesses participated in the conference.
