MOSCOW, February 2, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent Yevgeny Yakuta) - The deputy prime minister and finance minister, Alexei Kudrin has expressed concern over the fact that Russia's Unified Energy Systems (UES) did not take part in a tender for privatization of Bulgarian energy facilities.

Mr. Kudrin told journalists that he discussed the issue with the Bulgarian economy minister, Lidyia Shuleva, on Monday.

"UES's application to participate in the tender was rejected, and we are now trying to find out the reason," Mr. Kudrin said.

"We believe it strange that a leading company which supplies energy to Europe and will participate in other countries' tenders could not take part in the Bulgarian tender," the prime minister pointed out.
