RUSSIA MAKES $28.2 MILLION IN IMF DEBT PAYMENT

MOSCOW, February 2, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Finance Ministry has effected a debt payment of $28,259,000 to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Finance Ministry told RIA Novosti.

The payment - scheduled for February 1, a day off - was made on Monday, the ministry reported.

This was the first of the debt payments scheduled for February. The next payments, according to the schedule, will be made on February 11 and 25.

In 2004, Russia will have to pay $1.7 billion to the IMF.

Russia's total debt to the IMF is $5 billion.
