CHISINAU, January 31 (RIA Novosti correspondent Vladimir Novosadyuk) - Cooperation with Moldova is a strategic area of Russia's policy, Yury Zubakov, Russia's Ambassador to Moldova, said at a meeting with the republic's Prime Minister, Vasily Tarlev, on Friday.

The Russian diplomat said Russia sought to settle the Transdniestria problem and would spare no effort to achieve that as a guarantor-country and mediator.

Mr Zubakov said Russian regions were interested in establishing direct contacts with Moldova's business entities and were eager to consider specific cooperation projects. Russian companies will take part in Transdniestria's privatization tenders and are ready to agree relative actions of theirs with the Moldovan authorities, noted Mr Zubakov.

The diplomat also said Russia could supply food grain to Moldova for prices lower than those of the world market.

The Moldovan premier, for his part, thanked the Russian government for 10,000 tons of food grain it provided to the republic last year as humanitarian aid. Recent years have seen a sustainable development of Moldovan-Russian relations both on a bilateral level and on the level of international organizations, he noted.
