ROAD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME TO BE WORKED OUT IN RUSSIA

MOSCOW, JANUARY 21, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI). A road development programme till 2025 will be elaborated in Russia this year, transport minister Sergei Frank said at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

According to the minister, the programme is aimed at reducing the GDP transport burden by 8-10 percent and thus raising the competitiveness of domestic goods, Frank said.

The programme also stipulates the improvement of the Russian transportation network - connection of 32,000 populated localities with major transportation systems.

The minister informed the President that the Russian transport concept adopted at the State Council was finalized with submitted changes taken into account. In addition, Frank said, the federal targeted programme "The Development of the Russian Transportation System" will be also finalized this year.
