INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS TO HOLD PRIORITY IN RUSSIA-WORLD BANK COOPERATION

MOSCOW, JANUARY 20 (RIA Novosti) - Infrastructure projects will hold priority in cooperation between Russia and the World Bank, Tatyana Razbash, press secretary of Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, told journalists after Kasyanov's meeting with James Wolfensohn, president of the World Bank.

As noted at the meeting, the sides are going to focus on infrastructure projects above all in the field of transport and building of new models of housing facilities and public utilities.

Kasyanov and Wolfensohn have agreed on a cooperation calendar.

They also spoke of global things such as the struggle against poverty, production and spread of narcotics. These themes will be in focus during Russia's G8 chairmanship in 2006.

The World Bank has offered to help in arranging the preparation of Russian experts to be involved in such work during Russia's G8 chairmanship, Razbash said.

The Russian premier and the World Bank president have discussed every aspect of World Bank-Russia cooperation with account for its macroeconomic set-up and the experience accumulated from projects of the bank's work in Russia, said Razbash.

The meeting was also attended by Russian Vice-Premier Viktor Khristenko, representing the Russian Federation in the World Bank.
