TEHRAN, January 19 (RIA Novosti correspondent Nikolai Terekhov) - Iranian President Mohammad Khatami heads for Switzerland on Monday to participate in the annual World Economic Forum opening in Davos on Wednesday.

Khatami is to deliver a speech at the opening ceremony and claim Iran's position on the world's vital economic problems, said the press service of the President's administration.

The Iranian President is to hold talks with Switzerland's officials in order to discuss international problems and issues of mutual interest.

Mohammad Khatami is expected to meet with representatives of the Iranian diaspora in Switzerland. Khatami who is known as a moderate politician-reformer in the West, often called on Iranian businessmen who left the country after the Islamic revolution of 1979 to return to their motherland.

The present visit by the Iranian President to Switzerland is also notable because Switzerland represents US interests in Iran in the absence of diplomatic relations between Iran and the USA.
