    GUESTS FROM BRAZIL TO DISCUSS IN MOSCOW MEAT DELIVERY QUOTAS

    MOSCOW, JANUARY 19, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT ALEXANDER BRATERSKY). Brazilian minister of development, industry and foreign trade Luiz Fernando Furlan and minister of agriculture Roberto Rodrigues will meet on Monday with their Russian counterparts, vice-premier Boris Alyoshin and vice-premier and minister of agriculture Alexei Gordeyev, reported a representative of the Brazilian embassy in Moscow.

    According to him, "the sides will, above all, discuss issues of mutual trade, especially agriculture." They will also consider the deliveries to Russia of Brazilian meat after the introduction in January 2003 of Russian quotas for the import of meat.

    To protect domestic producers of meat produce the Russian government introduced the annual quota for the import of meat.

    According to the ministry of economic development and trade, the annual quota for the import of poultry meat is 1,050, 000 tons. The quota for the USA will be 550,000 tons, for the European Union -- 140,000 tons, and for Brazil - 33,000 tons. The resolution of the government prohibits to import more poultry meat than established by the quota.
