VLADIVOSTOK, January 13 (RIA Novosti correspondent Anatoly Ilyukhov) - The investment program adopted by the Russian Railways joint-stock company will make it possible to considerably boost the capacities of the Nakhodka-Vostochnaya station in the port of Nakhodka (100 km east of Vladivostok, the administrative center of the Maritime territory situated on the western coast of the Sea of Japan). Nakhodka is the starting point of the Trans-Siberian railway.

Viktor Popov, chief of the Far Eastern railway, said this Tuesday.

In his words, when the additional three railway tracks are built, modern technologies applied and new information control systems introduced, the Nakhodka-Vostochnaya station will double its capacities for handling container cargoes, i.e., timber, coal, metal, fertilizers, etc.

Upon its modernization, the Nakhodka-Vostochnaya port station will be able to handle 12 million tons of cargoes a year. However, the port can transship 18 million tons of cargoes and, according to its managers, they intend to boost its capacities to 25 million tons.

Moreover, at present it takes 10-11 days for speedy route container trains to deliver containers by the Trans-Siberian electrified railway from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region to Western Europe. The delivery time is to be gradually reduced, Popov noted.
