Denisov was appointed a deputy chairman of the inter-governmental body to develop cooperation in the power industry that comprises 51 countries at the end of 2003 after his candidacy had been suggested by the Russian government.
Chairman of the Conference Henning Christophersen welcomed Denisov's appointment describing it as "a positive concrete evidence of Russia's adherence to full participation in the work of the Energy Charter".
In this connection he expressed his hope that Russia would ratify the Agreement to the Energy Charter.
Denisov's appointment means that "the Russian government will be directly represented in the administrative body of our organization, and this cannot but contribute to expanding and strengthening the dialogue with the Russian authorities on all aspects of the Energy Charter's activities," Christophersen's statement reads.
