New Delhi (Sputnik) — Russia has expressed deep satisfaction over India's victory at the ICJ. This is the first reaction from any permanent UN Security Council member country. The other four permanent member countries are Britain, France, China and the United States.
Earlier this week, India's Justice Dalveer Bhandari was re-elected to the ICJ following the withdrawal of the UK from the contest. The ICJ is the United Nations' supreme legal body and settles disputes between member nations.
"My congratulation and satisfaction, it demonstrated the strength of global community or village," Nikolay Kudashev, Russian Ambassador to India told after meeting with India's Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi. Kudashev said that it would add more strength to ICJ in the proceedings.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, Kudashev discussed several issues of bilateral cooperation and mutual interest with Kiren Rijuju.
