The viral picture shows traffic cop B Shubh Kumar of the southern state of Andhra Pradesh pleading with folded hands in front of a traffic offender traveling with his wife and three children on a single motorcycle and that too without helmets.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — These days social media platforms in India are abuzz with a hilarious photograph of an intrepid looking cop standing folded hands in front of a traffic offender. The cop has a fed-up kind of a look and is seen pleading to a family of five on one bike and the picture is now viral.

The Bengaluru City Police in Karnataka state was the first to tweet the picture on social media and after that, it was shared by thousands. Bengaluru traffic police are famous for its innovative use of social media platforms for creating awareness among people about traffic rules.

"What else can he do? We always have a choice. Chose the safe one! #BeSafe," Abhishek GoyalAbhishek Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of Police —Traffic — East, wrote on Twitter.

The Indian government has been struggling with traffic laws and violations of rules on the road are common. The problem is so acute that the country’s apex court had to recently intervene and proclaim a set of guidelines to reign in traffic offenders.

The court set up a committee and ordered directions to all states to adopt stringent punishment to make people follow traffic rules. Punishments even extend to the suspension of driving license for signal jump and even a jail term for erroneous or drunken driving.

According to the Indian media, the picture in circulation was taken in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district. The picture is unusual for the Indian audience because the cops in the country have a very conventional image and they are not known for using such soft approach while dealing with offenders.
