Mosque Attack in Kabul: Causalties Reported, Gunfire Continues

An explosion was heard after a group of gunmen entered Zamam Mosque in Afghanistan's capital of Kabul during Muslim prayers; casualties reported.

A shiite mosque in Kabul came under terrorist attack on Friday. A suicide bomber blew himself up in Zamam Mosque. At least 2 people killed and 11 others were imjured, according to the Public Health Minsitry.

Shortly after the explosion gunfire was heard near the mosque.

Police deployed to the scene. Security forces surrounded the mosque but are not advancing to prevent more casualties, Independent reports citing Police official Mohammed Jamil.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish confirms that one attacker blew himself up outside Imam Zaman Mosque in PD11, Tolonews reports. According to him, two police officers were killed and two wounded in the mosque attack.

According to the news agency, eyewitnesses say the attackers used hand grenades when they first entered the mosque in the Qala-e-Najarha area.

​Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack.
