    Daesh-Linked Militants Attack Town in Southern Philippines, Occupy School

    The Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) militant group linked with Daesh terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) attacked a town of Pigcawayan in the southern Filipino province of Cotabato and occupied a school, media reported Wednesday citing local police chief.

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Al Jazeera broadcaster reported that a hostage situation might be underway.

    The Philippine southern island of Mindanao is regularly subjected to attacks by terrorist groups, in particular, Maute, the BIFF and Abu Sayyaf militant groups, linked with Daesh terror group, banned in Russia.

    Clashes between Islamists and the Philippine military forced prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in the entire island in May.
