More than 50 percent of Japanese citizens have negative views about a recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a poll revealed.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — A total of 54.3 percent of respondents negatively assessed the meeting, while 38.7 percent had a positive attitude, the Kyodo news agency said citing the survey results.

The agency did not mention the number of people that took part in the survey, which was carried out on Saturday and Sunday.

The Russian president visited Japan on December 15-16 to meet with Abe. As a result, Russian and Japanese companies signed 68 documents on energy, investment and agriculture.
