MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Afghan security forces have killed one of the commanders of the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) jihadist group in the country's northern Jawzjan province, local media reported Sunday.

At least two Daesh militants were injured during the clashes, the media outlet reported, citing the district's administrative chief Rahmatullah Hashar.

In late November, media reported that the Daesh militants' Afghan cell had suffered many casualties during the anti-terrorist operations of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) in the country's eastern province of Nangarhar.

Afghanistan is in a state of political and social turmoil, with Taliban insurgents and other extremist factions such as Daesh, outlawed in Russia and many other countries, taking advantage of the instability in the country.
