South Korean President Park Geun-hye said Tuesday she was ready to resign in the wake of a scandal involving her friend and confidante if lawmakers ensured a safe transition of government.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The embattled president said in a televised address that she would "entrust the National Assembly with making decisions on issues, including the shortening of my presidential term."

"If the ruling and opposition parties devise a method to minimize any confusion or vacuum in state governance and ensure the stable transition of government, I will step down in line with the timeline and legal procedures," Park said as quoted by the Yonhap news service.
