TOKYO (Sputnik) — Park has been under scrutiny after the arrest of her long-time confidante Choi on suspicion the latter used her friendship with the president to extort money from businesses. The president was formally implicated in being Choi's accomplice on Sunday. Choi was indicted on the same day.
"We have sent our request to the president's attorney that we want to question Park face-to-face by Nov. 29… We are waiting for a reply," a senior prosecutor said, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.
The president is also suspected of letting her confidante influence state affairs. On October 24, the JTBC television network reported that Choi allegedly received drafts of Park’s speeches before they were publicly delivered, though she had never held a public post. The following day, Park officially admitted asking Choi for advice on speeches and public relations issues, and apologized for "causing public concern."
The revelation has caused a massive anti-government protest in the country, with people calling on the president to step down and promising to launch an impeachment procedure.
