South Korea’s coast guards fired a heavy machine gun on Tuesday to arrest Chinese boats suspected of fishing illegally in Korean waters, Korean media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The gun was fired into the sky to prevent two Chinese fishing boats from fleeing, the Yonhap news agency reported. It cited the Coast Guard as saying no one had been injured.

This was the first time that a crew-served weapon, reportedly an M60 machine gun, was used to capture trespassing Chinese vessels.

The incident occurred in the late afternoon in the Yellow Sea off the western Korean port city of Incheon, according to the outlet.
