MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Myanmar authorities called off on Friday search and rescue missions of an alleged aircraft that has fallen off the west coast of Myanmar, Civil Aviation Department senior official Tin Maung Ni said Friday.
"The only thing I can tell you for sure at the moment is that it is not an aircraft from our domestic airlines, so far as we've checked… So we're not doing anything," the official said, as cited by the Express newspaper.
Earlier in the day, Myanmar's civil aviation authority received unconfirmed reports from regional sources about a plane disappearing near the country's coast on Friday morning. When the authorities reached the spot where the aircraft had allegedly crashed they did not find any evidence of a plane crash and thus decided to hold off the search for the time being.
