Australia has charged two teenagers with preparing a terrorist attack.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Two 16-year-old boys were accused on Thursday in Australia's Sydney of preparation of a terrorist attack and membership of a terrorist group, the New South Wales Police Force said in a statement.

"The New South Wales Joint Counter Terrorism Team (NSW JCTT) has charged two juveniles with terror related offences following their arrest in Bankstown yesterday (Wednesday 12 October 2016)…The pair was charged shortly after 5.00am today (Thursday 13 October 2016), with the following: Other acts done in preparation for, or planning, terrorist acts…Membership of a terrorist organisation," the statement reads.

According to the statement, the teens were arrested in Adnam Lane, Bankstown, and two knives were seized among other items.

The police believe the plotted attack was inspired by the Daesh terrorist group, outlawed in Russia, NSW Police Commissioner Catherine Burn told reporters earlier in the day.
