NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — With the Indian Embassy in the US closed on Tuesday and Wednesday on account of two back to back public holidays, it became an impossible task for Abhai Kaul to get an Indian visa before Thursday. Abhai wanted to leave immediately for India to attend the cremation of his father who died on Monday.

Out of desperation, Abhai's Mother Sarita Takru in India tweeted to the External Affairs Minister seeking her help in securing a travel visa for her son in the US.

As she is known for her quick responses and speedy resolution in such cases of distress, she immediately directed the Indian embassy in the US to provide a visa to the grieving son to attend his father's funeral. "Our Embassy in US is closed for Vijaya Dashmi and Muharram. I have sent a message. We will open the Embassy and give a visa to your son," Swaraj tweeted.

The minister's intervention prompted the Indian embassy to get in touch with Takru to share the contact details of Abhai to grant him a visa immediately.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is also known as Supermom. It is her quality of quickly responding to the needy on Twitter which prompted the Washington Post to call her "supermom of the state" in April. The newspaper praised her proactive approach on social media providing help to hundreds of Indians seeking the government's help.
