Foreigners can now visit restricted areas in the Leh district of Ladakh in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Relaxed measures for foreign travel have been passed by the Indian government so that tourists can visit Leh without a Protected Area Permit.

One of the highlights in the district of Leh is Nubra valley, known for its beauty and Buddhist monasteries. One of the main goals of the relaxed measures is to bring in greater tourism and provide a boost for the local economy, which has suffered under the recent unrest in the valley.
