In a massive search operation against infiltrated militants, the Indian Army eliminated 10 militants in the Lachipura area of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi — The India Army has foiled 17 infiltration attempts along the Line of Control this year alone.

Army sources say that nearly 15 terrorists had infiltrated into Indian territory. The army intensified search operations in the area for others. This comes two days after terrorists killed 18 Indian Army soldiers in an attack on an army base near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. The army has also foiled an infiltration attempt in the Uri sector on Tuesday morning.

India’s Ministry of Defense said that the infiltration attempts by terrorists have shown a marked increase in comparison to the past 3-4 years. In 2016, there have been 17 infiltration attempts eliminated by the Indian Army along the Line of Control. Of a total of 110 terrorists eliminated in J&K, 31 were killed while attempting to cross the Line of Control.

Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Director General Military Operations (DGMO), said, “It actually indicates a desperate attempt from across the Line of Control to infiltrate more terrorists into Kashmir with with the aim of creating a disturbance and fomenting unrest in our area. The last two infiltration attempts i.e. Sept 11, 2016 in Punch and on Sept 18, 2016 at Uri were successfully thwarted by the Indian Army by killing four terrorists in each of the operations.”
