Indian Protester Torches 42 Buses for Meal

Forty-two buses were torched in India's city of Karnataka during protests over water sharing between the states of Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu.

New Delhi — A Young woman suspected of instigating the arson was arrested last week in Bengaluru, Karnataka during protests against sharing water with the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu. As per the police the lady was offered a plate of biryani, rice cooked with meat, and 100 rupees ($1.5) to participate in the arson. After check the CCTV recordings of the bus yard, police arrested eleven persons including the woman for bu ringing the buses belonging to Tamil Nadu based KPN fleet parked in Bangalore.

Yellamma, mother of Bhagya told media that "Bhagya had just returned from when some men came and asked her to join the protests on the promise of a plate of biryani and rupees 100."

However after protesting, Bhagya was seen taking petrol from other vehicles and pressured fellow protestors to torch the parked buses. She confessed burning one bus herself. There were over 40 buses parked in the yard and all of them were burned.

Violent protests have left two dead and hundreds injured. Indian and foreign multi-national companies kept their offices shut in fear of violent protesters in Bengaluru. As per an estimate Karnataka, particularly Bengaluru city, suffered losses to the tune of USD 3.7 billion due the protests.
