"The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Clinical Advisory Group (CAG) on Zika and Pregnancy advise all pregnant women in Singapore with symptoms of Zika (fever and rash and other symptoms such as red eyes or joint pain), as well as those (with or without symptoms) with male partners who are Zika-positive, to be tested for Zika virus infection. This is regardless of whether they have been to Zika-affected areas," the MOH statement read.
Singapore confirmed its first locally transmitted case on Saturday. On Tuesday, the MOH confirmed 26 new locally transmitted cases of Zika virus, bringing the total to 82.
The Zika outbreak began in Brazil in the spring of 2015. The virus is transmitted by Aedes mosquitos. It does not cause serious complications in adults, but it can cause severe brain defects and microcephaly in newborns.
