A magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit Myanmar today. Tremors were felt across the eastern parts of India.

Strong tremors have been felt in West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and other northeastern Indian states. Mild tremors were also felt in northern India also. There are no reports of casualties so far.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Myanmar and it occurred at 4.04 pm at a depth of 58 km, according to the National Center for Seismology.

People panicked and rushed outside their houses in Kolkata and Guwahati. In Kolkata, metro service was suspended for some time due to the earthquake.

Mild tremors were also felt in India's northeastern states. Tremors were felt in the Darjeeling and Siliguri areas in the north of West Bengal, however no damage was reported.
