MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Afghan troops killed two girls wearing explosive vests in a counter-terrorism operation in the eastern province of Nuristan, local media reported on Monday, citing the country's Ministry of Defense.
The number of suspected terrorists killed during the raid totaled 27 people, the Khaama news outlet said, citing a ministry statement.
No group has taken responsibility for recruiting the girls so far, the media outlet added.
Lying close to the Afghan-Pakistani border line, Nuristan province is vulnerable to attacks by insurgents. On Sunday, the Taliban militant group reportedly launched an attack in the Waygal district of Nuristan, forcing the provincial government to request reinforcements from Kabul.
