Uzbek Urgench Airport Closed Over Egyptian Aircraft Bomb Threat

The airport of the city of Urgench in Uzbekistan was closed Wednesday over an EgyptAir bomb threat, a source in Uzbekistan Airways told RIA Novosti.

TASHKENT (Sputnik) – This measure was taken following an Egyptian jet's emergency landing after authorities recieved an anonymous warning about a bomb on board the plane.

"The Egyptian airliner has landed. The Urgench airport is now closed for arrivals and departures of planes," the source said.

The EgyptAir plane heading from the Egyptian capital of Cairo to China's Beijing landed in Uzbekistan earlier on Wednesday, after Cairo airport authorities had received an anonymous tip about a bomb on board the airliner.

All passengers and crew were evacuated, while the jet is now located in a safe zone where it is being investigated by experts
