Australian Federal Police arrested an 18-year-old in Sydney for allegedly planning a terrorist attack, local media reported Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, the police authorities are due to address the media on the issue.

The arrest is not linked to raids taking place in the city of Melbourne where five men were charged for planning to join the Islamic State militant group in Indonesia by travelling there by boat, the newspaper reported.

In late November, Australian Federal Police said at least a dozen people known to reside in Australia were said to be capable of committing localized terrorist attacks.

The Islamic State militant group, mainly active in Syria and Iraq, is banned in many countries of the world including Russia.
