MOSCOW (Sputnik) — South Korea's counter-espionage agency has launched a probe into an alleged hacking attack believed to have been carried out by North Korean against the largest naval shipbuilders in the country, Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co., local media reported Tuesday.

"After identifying signs that Hanjin Heavy Industries may have been hacked on April 20, the Defense Security Command is currently leading a security investigation… North Korea could have been involved, but we are not absolutely sure at this stage," an official source told Yonhap news agency.

The source reportedly added that the Command is currently checking whether any information was stolen that could be classified as military secrets.

South Korea's military was targeted by hacker attacks in 2014 and 2015. North Korea was suspected in both cases but no decisive evidence was uncovered. South Korea reportedly believes that Pyongyang operates a 6,000-strong special hacker unit.
